Why Is Yoga So Popular In The West?

In the west, over the last few decades Yoga has gone from a topic, which seemed like taboo, to a topic which is regarded as an important topic for many reasons. The health benefits seem to be the biggest reason for the uptake of yoga in the west.
Yoga is a very old form of meditation. It does not just stop at meditation, however it encompasses visioning, and some other aspects which could be termed as paranormal. So, why would anyone want to meditate, and why are so many people doing yoga meditation?
In the west we have seen many changes happen in society. These changes which have gone from manual labor to what we have today, the service industry. This information age that we find ourselves in, is an age which puts in front computers. Computers operate at fast speeds. Computers, of course are technology creations. These are technologies, and by our use of time saving, we have done the opposite, and that is to go ever faster.
Life is fast paced today. In France several hundred years ago, if a king passed away, it could have taken a century before everyone heard the news! Today, this kind of information can get anywhere in the world. Think of this article, it is worldwide. You could read it, speak to your friends, and before long, everyone has read this article!
So, what does this have to do with the popularity of Yoga meditation in the west? It is simply, this fast paced society we find ourselves in. People can’t seem to have time to think. Ask someone to take a time out and breath deeply for a few seconds, and it seems like if they do, the world would run ahead, leaving them behind. But, this doesn’t provide answers.
The monarchic, monotheistic religions have not answered many questions. How do you get peace of mind in a fast paced world? The key is meditation, and yoga meditation is helping more and more people find that peace of mind. The world is not going to run off, and you will actually have much more energy and the ability to make the smart choices in life.
Yoga meditations main benefit is the spiritual aspect. In fact in the east that is the whole point of yoga meditation, to seek connection with the spiritual. Though this view of doing yoga meditation is more foreign in the west, more and more people understand that for them it may be the best way to get that spiritual connection which is essential in life.
The spiritual connection is not the main reason why people practice yoga in the west. For many the health benefits are the main reason of doing yoga mediation. The benefits are numerous, however, to touch on some, we have peace of mind, lower heart beat rate, and more flexibility in joints.
As we continue into the future, people need answers. Long gone is the view that we have to rush ahead. Technology is here to make life easier. Think of a room with Ikea furniture, and computers, even perhaps a setting such as Earth on Star Track, and you will find that the spiritual dimension is an important part of life. Yoga meditation will continue to be popular for the future in the west, as it has been for the ancients of India and Tibet.

Biofeedback technology and yoga meditation is such a facinating topic. A promising biofeedback technology called wild divine is currently amazing the scientific community.

From: www.swamij.com http The goal of Yoga is Yoga itself, union itself, of the little self and the True Self, a process of awakening to the preexisting union that is called Yoga. Yoga, Sankhya, Vedanta, and Tantra view the human as manifesting outward step-by-step, whereby the subtler consciousness projects evermore outward, and then gradually forgets those subtler levels. Yoga or “Union” is attained by first training, balancing, and purifying each of the aspects of our being individually, and then systematically receding attention inward through those levels, expanding so as to experience the state of Union, Yoga, Samadhi, or Turiya. Can Yoga And Yoga Meditation Cure And Relieve Stress?

Yoga Meditation And Stress?

Stress is something that is grasping more people today than it has ever done in mans history. It seems like as we move forward, and technology moves forward, that we have to work and move faster which ultimately causes stress. Can an ancient practice called yoga and yoga meditation be the cure and reliever that so many people need today?
It is quite strange how the two can mix. How can today’s people do yoga, most people would say, however, more and more people don’t hold such a view. Our views are changing and it is perhaps the most important change happening in the west and globally.
For the last few centuries, the field of science and medication is focused primarily on the physical and forget other aspects of us. For example, a doctor heals problems physically. He provides tablets to fix this, that and the other, but never looks at causes. Instead the doctor focuses on the effects.
This view has been held by the public also. And most people will look at holistic healing methods with a sense of none belief at its validity. In fact most methods are methods which doctors and scientists can measure. Instead they will measure the effects again. Even though this is the case, many studies have confirmed the benefits of yoga, and yoga meditation at creating stress relief.
Yoga, and other practices put there thought on holistic methods of healing; that is looking at the whole person rather than simply there body. This includes mind, body, and soul. And here is where science has for so long neglected.
Whereas simply meditating primarily works with the mind aspect, and bringing balance in your mind, it also creates balance in your body. It synergizes you with all your aspects, and allows peace of mind.
Doing meditation, whether that is yoga meditation or any other form of meditation does indeed produce effects on the body. For example relaxing, taking deep breaths and meditating makes your muscles relax. Yoga meditation allows blood to flow freely in the brain, which makes more of a relaxed body.
Here now, we have balance, and when all 3 aspects of you become more balanced, more peace of mind follows. We take the world with delight, and the things that seemed to cause aggravation and stress before, can now dissolve and seem easier to accomplish.
Yoga meditation is not the only way to create this peace of mind and balance. For example Yoga also looks at your diet, and also the well known of Yoga – the gymnastic style exercises. Even though they may seem complicated, there are many postures that are easy to perform, and will give your mind, body, and soul that balance it needs.

Stress can be a big burden. Yoga is simply one way to create peace of mind and relaxation. Some links that you can visit, and can help you are:

Synchronizing yoga sound meditation with breathing helps focus the mind. Do complete yoga breathing if possible, filling your lungs from the bottom to the top. Inhale first to your abdomen, letting it expand; then bring the breath to your middle and then your upper lungs to complete the inhalation. As you exhale, release the air from your upper lungs first, then your middle, and finally your lower lungs, contracting your abdomen slightly as you complete your exhalation. You’ll find the slow, deep breaths very relaxing. I will show you how to do this now.

Get Some Peace Of Mind With Yoga Meditation

Peace Of Mind – Yoga Meditation

We live in a hectic world. The way of life in the west is spreading all across the world, and there are fewer places to find the tranquility and peace of mind we seek. The hustle and bustle, the rush and get there on time is causing humans to stress not only there bodies, but also the environment.
No wonder the environment is facing problems. As humans we began by laboring, and then thought we would win life with getting faster, and having technology to help us. This has not been the case however, we have come to a time, when all this technology is making us work faster and not be able to take it easy. Where is the peace of mind gone, and can yoga meditation help humanity?
People need answers, and in a world where we don’t have time to give to ask questions and find answers we have created ourselves a confinement with no freedom. The major religions in the world are having a hard time keeping up. There is one wisdom that may help humanity and provide us with that peace of mind we need and seek, that is meditation or more aptly yoga meditation.
Yoga is a form of meditation which has been practiced in Asian countries for centuries, even millennia! The benefits of yoga meditation are immense. Peace of mind is one of them. When you begin meditating, you will find that your thoughts are like a busy highway! You just seem to have so many. You may even be saying you don’t have the time to meditate.
Stop! It may appear as though you don’t have time to spend 5, 10, 15 minutes to meditate everyday, but without it the chaos will always be there. No order in the mind will mean no order in the world. You must first find peace inside you. Gradually you will find your world will change.
Your thoughts become your beliefs, you beliefs determine your character, and ultimately your character and all these elements will determine what actions you will take. Whether you will constantly go for the job in a busy location, buy the house where trucks pass often, etc.
With yoga meditation you not only get peace of mind, you centre yourself. You find that you can be calmer, and problems don’t effect you as bad. Anger management is another way that yoga meditation can serve you. You can relax, and find that you are better able to handle the challenges of life.
This does not mean that you have to become some kind of a mystic for doing yoga meditation! Though many people would have looked and laughed at yoga meditation in the past, the benefits to you are immense. More and more people are realizing that today, and yoga meditation in the west is becoming very popular.
Relax, and free your mind. Take a time out, and spend it with yourself. Focus on your breath, and forget your thoughts. Forget the passage of time, and enjoy where you are at now. More peaceful people in the world will allow us to have less stress, need fewer hospitals and live longer and happier lives.

The Relationship between Yoga, Meditation, and Self-Hypnosis

Yoga, Meditation, and Self-Hypnosis

Each one of these healing methods is thousands of years old. The exact origins of meditation and self-hypnosis are not known. We do know that Yoga existed over 5,000 years ago in the Indus Valley. Despite the evidence that each of these methods creates peace of mind, within the practitioner, they have only recently gained worldwide attention for their results.

Meditation is often linked to Yoga, since it is one of the many aspects of Yoga. However, meditation is also a separate entity and has existed in almost every corner of the earth for a very long time. Proponents of self-hypnosis can make similar claims and healers have successfully used this method for a variety of ailments that afflict mankind.

All of these methods have existed despite fundamentalist efforts to prevent them. Why should fundamentalists care about Yoga, meditation, and self-hypnosis? The keyword is “self.” If you can control your mental, physical, and spiritual health, you can regulate your own life. This strikes fear into the hearts of those who work very hard to regulate and control the masses.

Ask anyone who practiced Yoga, but has lived under a suppressive form of government, about his or her experience. Over the past 15 years, I have met many former Soviet Block citizens, and learned so much from them. Many of them shared their experiences about practicing Yoga, martial arts, meditation, self-hypnosis, and religion in secret. Families practiced together secretly to avoid drawing attention to them.

Attention to yourself is not desired in any suppressive society. To become the custodian of a healing method is one thing, but to risk your life for it is truly brave. For this, and many other reasons, these people are the unsung heroes for freedom, self-improvement, and healing methods.

For those of us who live in a free society, we often take for granted that you can practice Yoga, meditation, self-hypnosis, or any other form of self-healing, without fear of reprisal. You can point yourself in a positive direction and pursue it freely. No one is holding you back from improving yourself and you don’t have to hide in a closet to practice.

The next time you make an excuse about not having enough time to practice Yoga, meditation, religion, or self-hypnosis, think of the people who have to put their lives on the line for a little personal freedom.

Lastly, you can always make an appointment with yourself. Write it down in your appointment book, on your laptop, or anywhere else you will see it. Make an appointment with yourself to practice Yoga, meditation, or self-hypnosis and remember those who gave their lives for the freedoms you have.

Why Does Yoga – Yoga Meditation Work?

It is like life is going at a fast pace today. Technology, faster cars, airplanes, and all forms of transport, and life in general are going faster. It seems hard to keep up, and Yoga, and Yoga meditation with its techniques as old as 4000 years claims to bring peace and harmony today. So, why does yoga and meditation work?
Technology got such a big investment, because it was and is believed that it will allow us to live more easily. The dishwasher stops woman and men everywhere from having to spend hours washing dishes. An airplane makes a vacation and not a pilgrimage. A van is there to help us from carrying heavy things without having to do it ourselves!
However, even with all this added technology, life still has gotten to a faster pace. It seems like every time the computers increase in speed, the world has to move just a bit faster.
Yoga is truly an ancient technique; a gift to man that applies just as well from when it was handed to us, as it is today. But, why does it work? Yoga has more and more people becoming interested in it. More and more people are meditating, and it is no longer a taboo to say you meditate or do yoga.
I remember some time ago hearing about how we breath. We have to options, one is breathing from our chest, while the other is breathing from the stomach. The interesting point is that babies breath from there belly, whereas as we become adults we tend to only breathe from the chest area.
Breathing is a fascinating topic, and one which most people don’t think about. By simply changing breathing from a fast pace to a slower pace, we automatically relax more. As we close our eyes, and do meditation, we relax more.
It seems like all the troubles of the world disappear, and when we open our eyes again, we have new vigor. We have a sense of peace. And if you have not meditated before, then it is something to consider.
Meditation brings peace of mind. And with the added benefit of other parts of Yoga, the diet, the exercises, postures, and positive thinking, it can truly bring us into harmony, even today.
Scientific research has shown the benefits of yoga and meditation. The peace of mind it brings you is simply amazing. Even in a world that can seem chaotic, meditation and yoga can truly bring peace to you.
Looking at people who have done meditation for a while, and regularly, you will see that they can handle more things with a relaxed state of mind, than others who don’t do meditation and yoga.
