Popular Health Trend – Yoga

When you feel tired or under too much stress, you can try yoga to relax yourself. Yoga has become one of the most popular health trends around.

Yoga has become so popular in recent years, and it’s easy to overlook the fact that it is actually one of humankind’s oldest activities. It is believed that yoga is originated from shamans in Indus Valley over 5000years ago.

Shamans were regarded as the holy men of early human civilization. It is said that they can communicate with the spirit world to find solutions to problems facing their people. Over time, these shamans developed a system of mental and physical exercises to expand their consciousness, and thereby give a new perspective on the problems of daily life. These exercises formed the foundation of modern yoga.

For thousands of years yoga was practiced mainly in India. The exercises of yoga were incorporated into three of the Indian religions: Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. Technically, yoga is not a religion; it is a method that can be used by anyone to pursue their own religious (or non-religious) goals.

Siddhartha, the founder of Buddhism, practiced yogic meditation, and meditation is still a central part of Buddhism today.

Yoga was practically unknown to the West until the 1960s, when popular culture began to show an interest in Eastern religions. People began to look at yoga as a way to find peace of mind in a world that was anything but peaceful.

Since the 1960s yoga’s popularity has grown steadily. Nowadays, Westerners practice all kinds of yoga. There are even yoga classes for people in their 70s!

In fact, there are so many people who want to learn yoga that yoga schools across the United States are having difficulty keeping up with the demand. Judging by its popularity, yoga is as useful for solving the problems of today as it was for solving the problems 5,000 years ago.

Easy Yoga Training with Yogaseekers

Forty or Fifty years back, a many of people still didn’t know the difference between Yoga and Yogurt. These days, Yoga is so fashionable that it’s basically a household word. Although it’s very well recognized these days, it doesn’t mean that public in fact understands what Yoga is. There are many myths about Yoga that are told by people that do not have a nice belief about it. Yoga is so complex that it offers something for everybody that chooses to embrace it. It doesn’t matter if you are young, old, chunky, slim, flexible or inflexible, every person can gain from some form of Yoga. Yoga was originally produced in India, but people worldwide enjoy the gains each day.

Many people try to classify Yoga as one special thing, but that just simply isn’t bona fide. Its many distinctive things, depending on what you are doing. Yoga is not just gymnastics, or fitness training or even a way to control your weight. It’s also not just a way to reduce your stress, meditate or be more spiritual. Yoga is all of these things and a good amount more that you are not aware of.

Yoga is a cycle of exercises that look like gymnastics. It’s true, Yoga can help you stay fit and slim, keep your weight under control and reduce the amount of stress that you have. There are types of Yoga that too offer a cycle of meditation exercises, which include breathing techniques that will help exercise your lungs and calm your full body. Many believe that when you meditate and breathe deeply that it will charge your body with energy, helping you get more done without being as tired.

Yoga has also been used as a type of health care. People with injuries have used Yoga to restore their bodies and care for their fitness. It’s quite amazing that more and more doctors around the country are prescribing Yoga as a way to reduce stress and as a type of physical therapy for different parts of the body, such as the back and knees. Yoga doesn’t merely help you restore your body, but it also helps you keep your mind healthy.

The word Yoga is derived from an ancient Sanskrit language in India and it means “union” or “integration” and “discipline”. Thousands of years back when Yoga was practiced by Indian religious elite, they used forms of Yoga to unite the body and the mind. They thought that being aware of your body and your mind will help you handle with the daily stresses of life. Often people will not be aware of their bodies at all and hover around day to day without being in tune with their body. This leads to an overall unhealthy lifestyle.

Yoga is often used to rationalize people’s minds and their emotions. Many people keep their emotions bottled up inside and do no express their real feelings. Suppressing feelings and emotions and lead to serious health penalty. Yoga seeks to unite people’s minds and their feelings, so that they can stop the emotions from consuming them and help them live a healthier life.

Yoga is so wonderful for so many different reasons. Look at different types of Yoga and unearth one that sounds like it will work for you. You will feel more relaxed and in tune with your body, like never before.

Teaching Yoga for Teen Stress Management – What Parents Should Know

Are you looking for an alternative method, instead of a prescription, for your stressed-out teenager, at home? If you have researched natural methods to lower the levels of anxiety, and stress – Yoga is probably a top consideration, by now.
Before you make any quick decisions, you should discuss your options with your primary care or family physician. If you do not like what you hear, you can always get a second or third opinion. Sometimes, a prescription is a solution, but prescriptions can have side effects, so you want to be aware of all of them.
You can research any prescribed drug by entering the name of the drug, in a search engine, on the Internet. You will find details, forums, or lists of common, and not so common, side effects. You can also check with Web MD.
This is not meant to scare you, but to help you make an informed decision. There are times, when the local pharmacist knows more about the side effects of a prescription than anyone. So, it is worth your while to discuss the subject with him or her.
Prescribed medicine may also be addictive. In order to lower stress levels, CNS (central nervous system) depressants can be prescribed to slow the brain functions down. Some of these are very addictive, so this may be a temporary solution. Yet, prescription medicines are also life savers. Due to the quick results, prescription medicine may be your first choice.
In comparison, Yoga has no such side effects, but the positive results may take weeks or months to see. Depending upon the situation, Yoga may be used as an adjunctive therapy at first. Later on, Yoga may become the primary therapy for stress management.
Yoga has many uses, but establishing family bonds is a valuable part of the practice. What should you do if the family ties between a parent and child were not so strong to start with? Sometimes, a parent and teen are complete strangers to each other.
For example: What if the family became separated, went through a divorce, if the children were brought up by a day care system, or if one of the parents was so career-oriented that family ties were not a priority? It is never too late to re-establish family ties, but there is much repair to be done.
Yoga, and other non-competitive activities, give both parties a chance for joint participation, without an adult being portrayed as the controlling parent or teacher. Activities, which are non-competitive, such as Yoga, give both parent and teen some “breathing room.”
One point for estranged parents to be aware of is – it takes time and a long-term commitment to develop strong family ties. Joint participation, in Yoga classes, gives time to repair the relationship. At the same time, Yogic philosophy guides teens to develop many good health practices.
In Hatha Yoga classes, careful alignment of the spine is emphasized, muscles are strengthened, the body becomes balanced, flexibility is enhanced, and a sound mind is developed.
The value of a healthy spine is overlooked, by those who are lucky enough to take it for granted, but it is a crucial nervous center. The spinal maintenance aspect is a valuable habit to learn at a young age. Yoga practice helps to create some space between the vertebrae, thus extending the life of our spine, and helping us to stay pain free in our later years.
With all the emphasis on good health, and developing awareness, teens that practice Yoga are less likely to be pressured into substance abuse or “following the leader.”
As teens approach adulthood, some of the best gifts parents can bestow on them, beside love, are: Establishing good health habits, the ability to see things as they are, and the ability to think for themselves. Yoga prepares teens for all of their challenges.
