Lord Krishna, the speaker of bhagavad Gita, is the Supreme Being reincarnate, who spoke in about 3,100 years BCE. The Gita gives non-fearbased knowledge of the higher Self, and answers two universal questions: Who am I, and how I can live a happy and peaceful life in this world of dualities? It’s a book of wisdom, yoga or spiritual growth that inspired Thoreau, Emerson, Einstein, Gandhi and many others. A repeated study with faith purifies our psyche and guides us to face the challenges of modern living leading to inner peace.

The original language of the Bhagavad-Gita was classical Sanskrit from India. Historically many very extraordinary people such as Albert Einsten, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Albert Schweitzer, Herman Hesse, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Aldous Huxley, Rudolph Steiner and Nikola Tesla to name but a few have read Srimad Bhagavad-Gita and were inspired by its timeless wisdom. At the outset, one must note that the two doctrines (Darshans) were often extremely difficult to understand. Hence the inevitable contradictions or duality of interpretation. The Six Darshans of ancient India were actually of differing origin and purpose, but all were brought into the scheme by being recognized as viable ways of salvation. They were divided into three groups of two complementary schools of thought (Darshans) or doctrines: Nyaya and Vaisesika; Sankhyya and Yoga; and Mimamsha and Vedanta. The Bhagavad Gita attempted to reconcile the Sankhyya philosophy with those of the Vedanta doctrine.

Gita Jayanti is a celebration of the gift of the Bhagavad Gita by Lord Krishna to the people of the world. It is celebrated on the Ekadashi or 11th day of the bright half of the lunar month in December/January every year (8th December 2008). The occasion is celebrated with special readings of the Bhagavad Gita in temples and Hindu organizations across the world. Some organizations also distribute copies of the Gita for free to promote the message of this Holy Scripture.

Yoga addresses a multitude of disorders, illnesses, and ailments. Much like any other disorder, insomnia is often the result of an imbalance within the mind and body. Yoga has been proven, over centuries, to help center the mind and body, while providing enough relaxation to help you sleep.
Anyone who has ever experienced insomnia knows how awful it can be. Whether the episodes are occasional, or regular, insomnia can disrupt your daily life. Insomnia sufferers often are depressed, anxious, and irritable; it can cause an overall feeling of helplessness.
Desperate for sleep, many turn to sleeping pills and other quick-fix solutions. In an emergency, most people opt for a sleeping pill. This multi-billion dollar industry thrives off this sense of futility. The biggest problem with choosing a sleeping pill is that these drugs often disrupt regular daily rhythms and can result in dependence. As it is, with all drugs, there are the side effects.
As long as a person’s insomnia is not a result of a medical problem, which needs professional attention, yoga can provide relief. Most bouts with insomnia are a result of stress and anxiety over personal life matters.
Yoga’s main focus is creating balance within the body and mind. Yoga also focuses on the present moment. This is especially true of yogic breathing exercises (Pranayama). With steady Pranayama practice, most stress, which keeps people from falling asleep, or wakes them up in the middle of the night, is over.
Regular exercise, of any sort, helps a person sleep at night. Vigorous exercise, done during the day, leads to looser, more relaxed muscles, at night, and creates a natural drowsiness at the end of the day.

This is, in part, due to endorphins released from the activity.
Highly active exercise is not recommended right before bedtime. It stimulates the body and raises the heart rate. These are not the conditions under which to try to fall asleep. Therefore, sun salutations would not be a good option at the end of your day, but would fit well into the early part of the day.
Yoga is an excellent choice, because performing the correct poses, actually prepares the body for sleep. Hatha Yoga poses are generally divided between those that give energy and those that relax. The soothing category influences the nervous system to respond with calm. Yoga relaxation incorporates breathing, focused mental imagery (or visualization), and slow, deep stretching movements.

Just What is a Visualization Meditation?

When most people are asked to describe meditation, they’ll think about monasteries and rooms full of monks. But that’s by no means the only form of meditating. A visualization meditation – sometimes called a guided meditation – is another popular method that people use to meditate. So what is it exactly?

As a general rule, a visualization meditation will do exactly what it sounds as though it should do.

You’ll sit or lie down in a comfortable position.

Next, you’ll press ‘play’ on your CD player or iPod or whatever other device you’re using.

Then you’ll be taken into a state of deep relaxation. This will be done with a combination of background sounds – maybe new age music, maybe whale noises, maybe waves breaking on a beach or possibly the sound of rainfall. Anything to help you reach a deep meditative state, so there’s also a chance that you’ll have some binaural beats playing along in the background to help your brain reach an alpha or even theta level.

There’ll also be some words spoken to help you reach this state. A calming voice will talk you through the relaxation process and will help you to get as relaxed as possible.

Once you’re relaxed – usually within about 5 or 10 minutes of starting the track, the guiding voice will then start on the visualization part of the meditation.

This can go any one of a myriad of directions as there are visualizations available for most anything you want.

Some of the more common options include:

Connecting with your higher self – the part of you that knows the course your life will be taking and that gently guides and oversees you
Healing your body – this is done by encouraging your body to produce more of the natural chemicals that it uses to regulate your body on a daily basis. We react quite well to these external commands (if you’ve ever jumped in a scary movie, you’ll know what I mean here).
Attracting more good things into your life. This is an extension of the law of attraction, which says that we attract things into our lives according to what we focus on. This kind of visualization meditation is great if you’re stuck in a rut in your life and need to break out of a downward spiral.

Meditate Daily – 1 Way to Do it the Easy Way

Why We Should Meditate Daily

With the world seeming to get more stressful, it’s becoming ever so more important to learn to detach yourself from the stresses of the world and be able to relax and quiet your mind. I’m sure that many of you can agree that one of the most frustrating things we put up with is our mind seeming to go at a million miles per hour with thoughts popping in from every direction possible.

Generally they are useless thoughts coming in for no apparent reason. And the worst part is that they just seem to keep repeating themselves. I remember reading an article about thoughts and it mentioned that 70% of a person’s thoughts are repetitive. I can certainly agree with that when I take a step back and begin to monitor my thoughts. I suggest you try and do the same. It really is quite eye opening when you stop and observe.

With this being a major problem for me to the extent that I would lay in my bed staring at the ceiling and having difficulty getting to sleep, I got to the stage where, enough was enough. So I started to check online what sort of things I can use to help ‘quieten my mind’. The overwhelming majority of sources told me that to meditate daily was the number one thing to do. So the next question was, “how do I meditate daily?” Whilst there are no hard and fast rules, it generally requires a lot of discipline and will power. Something that I generally don’t have.

What I found…

I wanted something that was easy and quick. I can be a bit lazy like that sometimes and I didn’t want to wait 6 months before I could start to see the effect. I wanted something for now. So doing a little more research on the net, I came across a number of meditation CDs and mp3s that you can listen to for help with meditating. I downloaded a couple of them, and whilst they were nice to listen to, I felt my mind continuing to wonder and still have these never ending stream of thoughts. So there I was, back researching what other things were out there until I came across this very well reviewed product.

It was called the ‘Brain Evolution System’. It make a whole host of promises including the ability to increase your capacity to learn, jump start creativity, solve problems in a fraction of the time and enjoy limitless energy & motivation. But the biggest catch phrase was that it was an easy way to meditate daily. It seemed a little too good to be true, but it came with a free trial, so I thought to myself, why not, let’s give it a go. I have been using it for 2 months now and can honestly say that I find myself not having the mindless chatter in my mind like I used to and I feel a whole lot more relaxed as well. I even manage to fall asleep so quickly, it’s not funny.

To use the system, all I do is slip on a pair of stereo headphones (it’s important that they’re stereo) for half an hour each day, sit back and relax. That simple. These are the sorts of products I like. Quick, easy and results in a short period of time. So, if you’re like me and looking for an easy way to meditate daily, then I suggest you give this system a try.
