<p><a href="http://nidrayoga.com/book-cd/">Yoga Nidra</a> is an experiential process akin to Deep Sleep wherein <em>you</em> as a <em>doer</em> is absent and <em>you</em> as being is present.  It is a means to access and be your true nature knowingly.</p>
<p><a href="http://nidrayoga.com/book-cd/">Nidra</a> Yoga is also experiential as it is the practice of <a href="http://nidrayoga.com/book-cd/">Yoga Nidra</a>. The distinction is that <a href="http://nidrayoga.com/book-cd/">Nidra</a> Yoga is a way of being that is global in nature, like the ocean, and Yoga Nidra  is a specific <a href="http://nidrayoga.com/book-cd/">meditation</a> technique within this way of being, like a wave.</p>
<p>The closest translation of the word <em>Nidra</em> is sleep, and, the word <em>Yoga</em> means union or connection. In this approach the union of yoga is realized experientially as the continuity of being that unfolds when the mind is silent and <em>there</em><em> is no doer</em>. The truth of this is glimpsed in the practice of Yoga Nidra and it is lived knowingly in daily life as the practice of Nidra Yoga.</p>
<p>This yoga approach is paradoxical as it uses the process of deep sleep to wake up to your true nature and cultivates a way of being that flowers in and as everyday life. It is beyond the measure of the thinking mind as it is <em>knowing as being </em>that embraces functioning according to the laws of natural order &#8211; for example: thoughts and memories associated with name and form are used functionally yet <em>knowing as being</em> means that the suffering, limitation and separation of identification via the thinking mind is absent.</p>
<p>In this light Yoga Nidra and Nidra Yoga are the direct, experiential approach to your true nature.</p>

True healing means restoring that  balance, and true  health means keeping it. </span></p>
<p><span style="color: black; font-size: medium;"><em>Yoga</em> means &#8220;to unify.&#8221;  It&#8217;s the holistic approach to all aspects of life: physical,  mental and spiritual. Yoga views the person as a whole; as a unique  combination of body,  mind and soul, and its techniques maintain that body-mind-soul harmony. </span></p>

<p>Space and Motion are complementary forms of the same thing.</p>
<p>Space as Emptyness is that which cannot be measured by the thinking mind; it is the All~Presence that is always available; it expresses itself as welcoming. Its expression is space; its expressing is motion.</p>
<p>The key to the understanding that space and motion are complementary forms of the same thing is to understand relationship. And the clearest way to understand relationship is to understand a couple that appears as separate individuals that are not separate in truth.</p>
<p>In this light &#8216;what is&#8217; is relationship that is not limited to any definition of relating or relations. it is simultaneously definite and infinite, ephemeral and perpetual.</p>

<p>The one who practices <a href="http://nidrayoga.com/book-cd/">Yoga Nidra</a> is a yogi and the clearest definition of what a yogi is comes from the Bagavad Gita 4:18 as follows: &#8220;One who sees inaction in action, and action in inaction, is intelligent among men, he is a yogi  and has accomplished everything (he is in the transcendental position although engaged in all sorts of activities).&#8221;</p>
<p>This definition evokes the obvious questions, &#8220;What does inaction in action and action in inaction mean?&#8221;</p>
<p>Inaction in action and action in inaction means that your very <a id="aptureLink_WoW34NVWIl" href="http://www.beingyoga.com/WhatIsYoga.html">being is doing</a> . For example in deep sleep you are not consciously active yet there is no discontinuity to life.</p>
<p>The practice of Yoga <a href="http://nidrayoga.com/book-cd/">Nidra</a> approximates deep sleep. In the practice &#8216;you&#8217; are inactive yet you are awake, alert and active as your true nature &#8211; thus you experientially understand &#8216;inaction in action&#8217;, &#8216;action in inaction&#8217; and you also then know what it means to be a yogi who has accomplished everything.</p>
<p>In this light Yoga <a href="http://nidrayoga.com/book-cd/">Nidra</a> is the practice of inaction is action and action in inaction.</p>

<p>Patanjali&#8217;s Yoga Sutra 1.2 states &#8216;Yoga is the cessation of the <em>modifications</em> of the mind&#8217;. This sutra denotes both the process of dissolving mental modifications (i.e. modes of perception, sensations, psycho-emotional states, etc.) into the &#8216;mind-field&#8217; (citta) and the result as mental treanquility wherein Awareness is pure and unmodified.</p>
<p>In this light it is clear that the practice of <a href="http://nidrayoga.com/book-cd/">Yoga Nidra</a> is Yoga as the union that is Presence when the &#8216;doer&#8217; is relaxed-absent. In other words the mind is silent yet nothing has been lost; instead there is a clarity as seeing without the distortions or modifications that come from seeing through the lens of knowledge, memory and experience.</p>
<p>Thus Yoga <a href="http://nidrayoga.com/book-cd/">Nidra</a> is the practice of &#8216;yogic sleep&#8217; as a means of being awake as your true nature.</p>
